On Monday we loaded the bus at 7:15 and set off for our 4 day cruise. The bus ride was about an hour and a half to get to the Port of Piraeus where we left from. On the way we picked up Christain from Glyfada. He was our escort for the trip and did all the planning and dirty work for us. The cruise ship that we were on was the Aegean 1 and was full with 560 passengers during our trip. Once we disembarked we had a meeting on what to do if we were going to drown, which was quite entertaining. We have a way of making almost anything entertaining, except for one of our tours which was pretty close to a form of torture... but more on that later. We were just having fun with the life vests and the situation. I don't think that i had ever been talked about in French before, but I'm pretty sure I have been now! No matter how much fun there is, something bad seems to inevitably happen. Two of our girls packed their things together and someone broke into their suitcase and stole a lot of money and a camera. We all chipped in, and Mandy got her money back and Danny got her money back and some to put towards another camera. This was a sick situation, but we all got closer together through it. After another meeting we had lunch and then later in the afternoon there were line dancing lessons. Line dancing is simple, but I think we needed simpler! It was pretty ridiculous, yet so much fun. Then the guy taught us the well known Greek dance called the Zora-this was the favorite in our group. After line dancing we stayed in the main lounge and played charades...we were good entertainment for people on the cruise-especially since it was us and a retirement home on the boat, but we made friends with a lot of people. We decided that they either really liked us or hated us, I don't think there was much of an in between, but most enjoyed us. And the staff did too, seeing as how they don't spend much time with younger people.
We arrived in Mykonos at 6pm and took tender boats directly to the city. Mykonos is beautiful with all the buildings being white washed and trimmed in bright colors. The island itself has 3000 people who live there, but 300,000 during tourist time. There were lots of people while we were there, but not that many. The island is said to have so many ins and outs so that the pirates would get lost when they tried to attack. Mykonos is also know for the 6 windmills (5 are still there) and "Little Venice". We wondered around the city and did some shopping then got back on board for BBQ by the pool and a show in the lounge. We went to bed Monday night and were on our way to Turkey.
