Brush tailed possums are an absolute pest, which is a pity really as they sound so cute and possum is such a lovely term of endearment. However, the enterprising New Zealanders are putting some of the 70,000,000 pesky critters to good use by harvesting their fur (with WWF's blessing) for anything from socks to willy warmers (I kid you not). And as I said, I am keen to knit - Euan could be about to get very cosy!!
I think this 'possum bottom's pic needs to become our blog title pic - I like the idea of the two of us rootling around NZ on the look out for tasty morsels.
To find out more about possums and possum socks and other snuggy things (but not willy warmers, I'm afraid), visit the lovely Kiwi Kate web site: http://www.kiwikate.co.uk//

Very exciting to know that we are going to get the stereo version of your news and Euan's pictures for the next month. Post away.
Possum socks are divine. But being one of the children with a bad possum childhood. Piddling in the roof above my bedroom for 18 years, hissing, thumping, racing, mating in the roof. I can tell you that I love the idea of the socks as a bit of revenge.
Can imagine that possum pee is worth serious revenge - we will let you know what further plans we hatch in that department. Euan is out looking for size 11 possums as I type, to provide a full wardrobe of socks.
