Hello All and welcome to my travel pod!

I have tried my hand at blogging before and it works out great for the first few entries and then I disappear into oblivion.  This time as I will be out of regular phone contact for the next 3 months I will try harder to keep updated.

My trip will be a combination of work and play.  I am going to New Zealand to work as a ski instructor this summer at Roundhill Ski Area in Lake Tekapo New Zealand.  This is a very small resort located on the south island of New Zealand about 3 hours from Christchurch and Queenstown.  Some of you may think that I am crazy for subjecting myself to a year and a half of winter and to be honest I have those thoughts myself sometimes.  The reason I am going is because last year after passing my Level 2 ski instructing exam last year a group of us started talking about going to New Zealand to work as ski instructors. After thinking about it all summer last year I decided to take the plunge!  Originally there 3 of us who had decided to make the big leap and work over there.  Kyla, a ski instructor who I work with in Sun Valley who also is a high school art teacher, Phil, an Austrian, who worked as a ski instructor in Sun Valley and world traveler extraordinaire, and myself the seasonal nomad who really enjoys living and working in different areas.  In the end Kyla and I are the only two embarking on this crazy adventure as Phil is somewhere in Tibet, last we heard, traveling around!

Our season starts July 4th in New Zealand leaving us with a month to travel.  Our reward for living in winter all year long...15 days in Vietnam and Cambodia!  We are traveling to Vietnam and Cambodia to get some summer and some beach time in before the long winter.  A lot of people have asked us why Vietnam and we have gotten some pretty weird reactions from people.  We chose Vietnam because a) Thailand was having some political unrest when where planning our trip. b) Vietnam is less touristy c) more young backpackers like ourselves d) it is cheaper than Thailand.    The more I read about Vietnam the more I am excited about it!  I have read the Frommer's guide book and some other travel blogs about Vietnam and it sounds amazing.  Right now I am also reading Hitchhiking Vietnam.  So far it has been a very interesting and enlightening read.   I am sure that we will have our share of problems but I remain hopeful that it will all be worth it in the end.
