The weather was absolutely stunning today. Scottie had talked Harvey into taking him to the airport for his holiday to Fiji, much to his dismay, but we all stood to benefit from this kind deed. Harvey gets to drive Scottie's car for a week, Katie and I get to stay in Scottie's room for a week and best of all...Harvey had taken the roof off his little Suzuki Vitara, stuck some petrol in it and threw me the keys!! WAHEY!! Rubber tried to give us his 5.8 litre V8 engined 'yute' too, which, if I'm really honest, I don't think I should be trusted with. It's an absolute beast of a thing. And besides, Rubber hadn't even been to bed and was still drinking when he made the offer. I snatched his other offer of borrowing his longboard for the day though. We got some ideas off the Harvster about nice places to go, slapped some factor 30 on our bonces, popped the surfboards in the back and we were off.

I'm sure you're aware that we're quite fond of taking a photo or two when we're out and about and you can imagine our disappointment to find that Katie's camera had kicked the bucket sometime during the night. Old age and years of abuse had finally taken their toll on the poor little trooper. We'd talked about getting a replacement camera for weeks, and couldn't part with the cash but the time had finally come. We dug deep in our pockets and headed to ALDI. Yep, they have them here too. $99 got us a nice little 8 mega pixel camera with rechargeable batteries and a charger. Bargain. Good old ALDI.

Now we could get on with our trip up the North Beaches region of Greater Sydney, it's basically a lovely drive all the way up the coast past various beautiful beaches until you get to Palm Beach at the top. An absolutely stunning place that not only has good surf but it's actually very famous too. That's why we had to go there. It's famous for.....wait for it....Home and Away!!! It's the place where they film the famous Aussie soap series that neither of us watch. What better way to spend a Sunday than trying to get on T.V??!!

The beach was very nice and after I'd been in for a little surf it was time for Supergirl's second real surf lesson. There's absolutely no way Katie's ever going to be able to learn on my little board and that's the reason for bringing the longboard along. Longboard along? O.K. Longboard with us!! It wasn't just to look cool whilst cruising the North Beaches in Harvey's jeep.(Honest) It might as well have been the reason though, it didn't go too well. The waves were breaking really close to the shore and it was really 'sucky' in the shallow water, i.e. the water would take the legs from under you no matter how hard you fought. A few mouthfuls of the old briney and a couple of screams later we decided to retreat to the beach with what was left of our dignity. Thankfully, there was no filming on the beach today. We haven't given up for good though, we just need to build some confidence in the white water. It is a lot more powerful here than what we're used to at home and can be quite daunting when someone's telling you to hold on to 7 foot of fibreglass and stop whinging! Maybe it's my teaching method that needs practice too?

We soaked up the beautiful afternoon sun and ate our little picnic before heading up the beach to the famous "Summer Bay Surf Club" for some crisps and pop before heading home for a shower and to see the results from our new camera. At least, that was the plan. When we got back, Harvey'd forgotten to leave the key for us and was on his 5th pint in the Wharf bar in Manly. No problem, we've got the car, we'll go get it. The weather here in Sydney is changeable. You just can't bloody trust it from one minute to the next and just when we got back from the beach it had started to look like it may pee down (That one's for you Den x) any minute. How difficult can it be to throw a canvas roof over a Suzuki Vitara though? Quite difficult. Especially when you need a wee (x2) and you're locked out of the house. We finally got it looking as if it wouldn't fall off or leak too much after about 20 minutes of cursing and giggling though, and operation key was successfully completed. After a sneaky 'bow of course. As for the camera? We're not impressed. Maybe we're doing something wrong? At least we'd had a great day out though, thanks again to Harvey's generosity. For some strange reason I can't get a particular T.V. theme tune out of my head though.....
