Katie started the day on a good note by stumbling into a wooden partition in the shower and cracking her head almost square on into the sharp edge. Resulting in a nice little gash to the eyebrow and a very sore head. We called in to a smoothie bar on the way to work to ask for some ice to stop the bruising. I really don't want my girlfriend to walk around with a shiner. It doesn't look good for me. It doesn't look too bad, I think she'll be fine as soon as her head stops throbbing. Ouch.
After our shift today we'd arranged to go to another complex run by a nice french couple to do a trial in the hope of them giving us more work. We cleaned an apartment for them but they wouldn't go and check our work because the floors would still be wet. We'll see, I'm sure we did a good enough job and if they offer us a few shifts a week we'll be sorted. Providing we can find somewhere to live. Easier said than done.
Once we'd finished our work tasks we went along to meet Zac. A guy with a flat looking for a couple to rent a room. The place was an absolute shit hole that had never been cleaned, the room was a bare brick cell with just a really old bed plonked in the middle and he wanted $200 a week for it. To top it off Zac (originally from Barry) lives all week on his "farm" out of town and comes back on the weekends to stay in the flat. The rest of the time we'd be sharing with his 18yr old son who hid during our visit. When Katie asked him what exactly he farmed he got kind of shifty and offered us a joint! I think I've worked out what grows on Zac's farm. We made our excuses and left. Laughing! It's not funny though, we really want to stay in Byron but if we can't find anywhere to live we're going to have to move on. We have to take the van back to Brisbane on Tuesday anyway so we have to decide whether or not it's worth coming back to Byron, staying in Brisbane (which I don't want to do) or flying straight to Sydney. The other option would be to extend our van hire and arrange to drop it off in Sydney but the lovely folk at Hippie Camper won't have any of it and said if we did that, it would cost us up to $3000!!! What happened to our holiday? Still no surf.
