Where I stayed

Flag of Indonesia  , Bali,
Saturday, September 17, 2011

Last night we arranged a trip into Kuta, another area in Bali.  A former fishing village, it was one of the first towns on Bali to see substantial tourist development, and as a beach resort remains one of Indonesia's major tourist destinations. It is known internationally for its long sandy beach, varied accommodation, many restaurants and bars, and many renowned surfers who visit from Australia.

Kuta was the site of the October 12, 2002 1st Bali bombing (202 killed) and the October 1, 2005 2nd Bali bombing (26 killed).

We travel by taxi shared with Tamara whom was on our tour and her friend Sandra and when we arrived the girls head straight to the beach.

Carmen and I made our first stop at Gloria Jeans... a coffee place found throughout Australia and so we had to take advantage of good coffee... oh and a cake... Banana and apple crumble which was divine.

We then headed into the town, it is so busy, people everywhere, its very touristy.  Carmen again makes up teen purchases... I love shoes but Carmen 7 pairs???  How will you fit it all in.....??

It was then she decided that perhaps she needs a bigger bag for hand luggage and brought another bag... I thought I was bad with mine;... would love to see you pack Carmen!!!

We also buy some DVDs, buy 10 get 4 free.... it has to be done at 40p each!!!!

We walked for hours before heading back to Gloria Jeans for a lite bite and then headed to the beach.... the beach here is just... busy!!!! So many tourists and locals... it feels hectic and I'm glad I'm not staying... I definitely prefer the more relaxed Bali.

Whilst sitting on the beach you are approached by many locals selling sarongs, ice-cream, clothes, bracelets, massage and henna tattoos...

As we sit watching the surfers Carmen decides to have a henna tattoo on her foot... another first for her while I settle on a should massage.. both of us sitting on the sand watching the world go by... we wait for the sunset which is disappointing... I've seen some spectacular ones but Kuta just doesn't have it!

We then walk back to the town and Carmen shops some more... her purchases are heavy!!!

We then start to barter for a taxi back and are lucky enough to get a cheap ride....

We stop at the organic restaurant for dinner and a beer before a shower and a choice of DVDs to watch.... both of us fell asleep half way through... shopping is exhausting....

Until tomorrow another early wake up call... 6am.... We are both so looking forward to tomorrows journey....
