Where I stayed
Today I decide to leave Byron Bay and continue up the East Coast to Brisbane, .. I had thought about stopping at Surfers Paradise but everyone I meet says how bad it is... I have to say driving through it looked OK... but the decision is made!
I've said before how similar parts of Australia are to London... and Brisbane is no different complete with its "London Eye" wheel!!!
The Wheel of Brisbane (it's true name!!) is a 60-metre-tall (200 ft) transportable Ferris wheel installation erected as part of the 20th anniversary of World Expo 88 and the 150th anniversary of the State of Queensland 1859–2009 celebrations. The ride opened in August 2008. It was initially scheduled to be an attraction of South Bank from 2008 to 2010 but has now been extended to remain until 2012.
Brisbane is the most populous city in the Australian state of Queensland and the third most populous city in Australia. Brisbane is named after the river on which it sits which, in turn, was named after Sir Thomas Brisbane, the Governor of New South Wales from 1821 to 1825.
I arrive at yet another hostel (not sure what is coming over me!) drop my luggage (unfortunately the only available bed is the top bunk.... how elegant this will be!!!) and head out for a shop.... I mean explore.... I was pleased to see that Benefit is sold here but unfortunately not what I was after... anyway managed to have a look around before headed back and meeting Chelsea and Ellis... sisters from Cambridge who are both travelling independently but meet up every now and again.... they even chose to stay in separate dorms so that they can both meet new people... they invite me out to diner which I accept and we chat... lots, which continues when we return to the hostel.
A good start to Brisbane and so far I like what I see.... tomorrow is the day I've been most looking forward too.....
