Where do I even begin?! First and for most I have to say thank you sooo much God for blessing me with such breathtakingly divine friendships and relationships over the past few weeks in Nicaragua. It started with me meeting Fernando and Elario in Jaco, Costa Rica about 30 min before my bus back to Puntarenas came. Fernando and Elario are 22 year old guys who live in Panama City, Panama and were out traveling Costa Rica on their 2 week vacation. We all immideatly clicked and I could tell after talking with them for a while respectable guys. Anyways, they came back to Puntarenas with me and a few other friends from Puntarenas just to visit. We all ate dinner that night that my tico-friends cooked and the next day spent hours at the beach and talking in Spanish! I was suppose to then go to Nicaragua with my cook/maid because she's from Nicaragua but at the last min she couldn’t go and its such a blessing because Fernando and Elario said that they’d love to join me on an adventure to Nicaragua. Thank God because the moment the bus arrived in Nicaragua we all got out and there were tons of people yelling "CAMBIO CAMBIO CAMBIO" (meaning this is where you should change your money from colonies to cortabats) I felt so uncomfortable, I latched on to Fernando’s arm while he guided me through the crowd. THEN, we met Nils.
Nils was born in Nicaragua but lives in Costa Rica and he was on his 1 week vacation with his nephew who lives in Nicaragua. Nils is soo funny! He is around 40 years old, is an English/Spanish teacher and talks with such a heavy accent so I am laughing the entire time!!! Literally… whole time with a smile on my face! He taught me soo many new words and we talked in Spanish the entire time!...he knew exactly how to bargain the prices really really low with all the taxi drivers and hostels and such. So what a blessing, we took a taxi to SAN JUAN DEL SUR, Nicaragua and experienced such beauty. We got a hostel for 5$ a night right across the street from the beach. I was not looking forward to sleeping in the hostel because I highly dislike hostels, this is the reason why I bring my own sheets when I have to sleep in a hostel and bring long stretch pants, socks and a long light shit because I just wrap myself up like a hotdog so if there are bugs I don’t get bit. But thank God here, it was very clean and we all had our own bathroom! SO, for the rest of the evening we played in the waves, layed on the beach and played soccer on the beach with locals. We saw such a beautiful sunset that pretty much took my breath away. We ate dinner at such a delicious local 'Comodor’ which is another name for ‘Soda’ in Costa Rica, meaning they just serve up typical plates. We had our plates piled high with pollo asada (seasoned and grilled chicken), gallo pinto (rice and bean mixture), salad, homemade tortillas, and fried platanos (fried plantanes)! I was in heaven, all the food tasted soooo soooo good. Also, I am not a big fan of beer in the states or in Costa Rica, but I think I have fallin in love with TONA, it’s the local beer here in Nicaragua and I had 2-3 of them with each meal because they were so smooth, cheap and hit the spot! J
The next day we went to Playa Madera, a local beach about 10 min away from San Juan Del Sur. We surfed all day with a local surfer named Juan Carlos. That night we went out to IGUANAS, a local bar/restaurant there in San Juan Del Sur and had such an amazing time!!!! I met so many people from all over Europe and Nicaragua. Plus Samer, a 23 year old guy from Boboyo, Nicaragau who mind was filled with nothing but catching the best waves and weed. Haha…but he was a nice guy and we danced the night away at Iguanas and the Jungle Room DiscoTech!
