KATIE:

We have a great time in Dallas, we have been staying with my mum's cousins Evelyn and Jessica and have been very well looked after. We spent the first night with Evelyn and went to Dealy plaza where JFK was shot, it was interesting, we went up to the 6th Floor museum from where he was supposedly shot. It was funny watching the tourists trying to get their photo taken on the x on the road where he was shot before the lights turned green and the traffic charged through.

We spent Christmas with Jessica and her son Giddeon and daughter Maggie, and the dogs Scout and Watson. It was a lot of fun, there was a party on Christmas eve where we ate and drank lots! The food was lovely we discovered Frito pies, a layer of frito crisps, a layer of cheese, a layer of chilli topped with another layer of cheese - yum!

After Christmas Evelyn took J and I to Austin for a couple of days. We stayed in a nice hotel with an amazing view of town lake. We met up with Evelyn's friend's daughter and her cousin and friends, who took us to Chuy's a tex mex restaurant - very good. It was where the Bush daughters were caught under age drinking - claim to fame! We went out to a few bars afterwards on 6th Street, which is the famous street in Austin. It was a really cool night, and we both suffered the following morning!

We went to the State Capital Building in Austin which is really beautiful (see pics). We also visited the LBJ museum.

Once back in Dallas we stayed with Jessica again, yesterday Jessica took us to Fort Worth which has the famous Stock Yards where they bring stock to show and trade. There were some real life cowboys and long horn cattle. We had a beer then went to the Gaylord Texan Hotel (same chain as the Opreyland in Nashville). We met up with Alan and Cindy (Jessica's brother-in-law and his wife) and their friend who worked on developing the Ice exhibit at the hotel, he took us around the exhibit which is amazing (see pics). It was done by Chinese people, apparently in China they have made a whole city out of ice on a frozen lake! The rest of hotel is great as well (see pics).

We celebrated New Year's at the bar where Jessica works, we had a great night - I danced a lot! We ate black eyed peas at midnight - they apparently bring good luck.

We are leaving Dallas tomorrow and flying to Cancun, Mexico.
