After just a short flight we arrived in Las Vegas!! We were both excited to have arrived and to see what it was like. We stayed at the Circus Circus Hotel which was at the top of one end of the strip, so we bought some bus tickets which took you up the whole length of it, having the opportunity to get off where you fancy. After dropping our bags off, we got the bus to the other end and then walked the 3 miles back, looking at all the different hotels and casinos along the way! We went into the famous 'Bellagio' and spent some money in the Casino where I turned $2 into $6, wahey!! At least I came out up unlike Andy who lost all of his money!

Las Vegas is much better in the evenings when everywhere is lit up - it looks pretty cool! We basically spent 3 of the days we were there walking up the strip looking at the different shows each hotel had on and spending a few dollars in the casinos which was good fun until I lost my $6!!  Each hotel had a different theme and a different show that the public could go and watch for free.  My favourite was the fountain at the 'Bellagio Hotel' - this was amazing, especially at night. The Venetian was pretty cool too - it had gondola rides going around and in the hotel, we didn’t bother going on one, it was just good to watch. Our hotel had free circus acts in the big top, although we only had time to watch one act the whole time we were there!

On the second evening we headed for the Fremont Street Experience which is in downtown Vegas rather than on the strip. The street is basically a pedestrian street with a roof made of millions of lights about a quarter of a mile long. Every hour or so videos are played on the roof and the everybody who is walking down the street stops and watches because the videos are quite impressive. In between the roof videos they have lots of musicians playing along the street and obviously there is an ample choice of casinos to lose your money in. We had a look in Binions, where poker was supposed to have been invented or something like that. We also got to have our picture taken with $1,000,000 in Binions! The street was really good, it was a more intense version of the strip because the roof kept the atmosphere and the flashing lights in.

One evening we decided to book tickets to see David Copperfield at the Hollywood Theatre at MGM. The theatre was cool, you had your own table so you could have drinks while watching the show. Copperfield was really good but also a bit cheesy. It was weird to see some of the things he did close up - at one point he shaped a napkin into a rose for this lady volunteer and somehow managed to suspend it in mid air and set it alight turning it into a real rose!! At the end of the show, the audience all had to stand up and he bounced these big beach type balls around the audience and whoever had one when the music stopped was to come up on stage as a volunteer for his last ‘disappearing’ trick. Andy couldn’t believe it when the music stopped and there he was holding one! Unfortunately he didn’t end up being one of the people he made disappear, but he was a witness on stage, checking everything was legit when he was performing the trick!! When he got back everyone was asking him how he did it but he says he couldn’t see anything! It was a good evening there and after we walked back down the strip, stopping at the odd casino along the way!!

We booked to go to The Grand Canyon on our last day in Vegas - bit of a break from the strip. It was an early pick up as it took over 5 hours to get there on a coach! On the way to the Canyon we drove over the Hoover Dam and along Route 66. We had about 3 hours to look around the canyon - it was amazing to see. We decided to walk 3 miles along the South rim which had some breathtaking views along the way. The pathway snakes all the way along the edge and there is no barriers at all so a big gust of wind or slip could end badly. The cliffs are pretty much vertical and at some points the canyon is about a mile deep. Andy enjoyed getting right close to the edge!! By the time we got back, it was quite late so we got something quick to eat and then had one last go in the casino where yet again I came out up and Andy came out with nothing!!  I am saving my $10 winnings for shopping in New York!! As you probably gathered we are serious high rollers and the casinos are keeping an eye on us!!

We both loved Vegas and would go back but you could spend an absolute fortune there. We think to do it properly you have got to go with plenty
of money. We still did a lot while we were there but there were things we couldn’t do because our funds were running low.

Only New York left now!  We can’t believe how quick the past 3 months have gone by but we have both had a great time and seen and done so many amazing things!!

Here’s to plenty of shopping in NYC!

Hi, Kate and Andy,
Glad you liked Vegas. Uncle Allen and I stayed at the Bellagio and it is wonderful - rooms are very nice and the swimming pool area really tasteful!
You will find out when you pick up your text messages that we were a little limited in Vegas as Uncle Allen had a motorcycle accident in the Valley of Fire! You will also find out that if you go to youtube/elvischapel and scroll through all the weddings and renewals it's where Uncl;e Allen and I went to on my birthday! You did all the things we couldn't get round to because of Uncle Allen's injuries, I'm so envious!! You are right, thought, it is somewhere to go back to and we will! Enjoy New York - will be surprised if you don't! Make sure your dad really enjoys everything in the Big Apple! Really looking forward to seeing you both home, safe and sound. Love you lots.
