It was a rainy and sleepy morning in Nessebar, on the coast of the Black sea. Every now and then the wind blew. The man who rented us a room walked us to the car and showed me the best road to Velko Trnovo. And off we went.
By crossing the city Ajtos, we entered Central BG. In the 19th ct. was here national revival; some towns [Karlovo, Sliven, Koprivstica] are closely linked to the fight against the Turks.
Or road was to take us to Velko Trnovo, Kazanlak, Karlovo, Plovdiv and on to the Southern BG.
Velko Trnovo, the city of tsars
to this city there is a winding road over and across the hills. The rain stopped eventually, but the wet road, autumn colours, mists from the forest, us, Keane and strange truck with register number 6667 and sign Allah, lingered. And then the truck was left behind and the road continued to wind across the hills, dressed in the fall.
The city being the one of the tsars is not hard to imagine. Try to picture Minas Tirith [even though being a bit more magnificent though, there isn't complete comparison]; there are houses made on different levels, rising towards the top of the hill like seats on the stadium. The colours of the houses have different coulour ranges; from yellow to red, where while overrule, with all of them having sort of a wooden balcony and wooden line around the windows.
Down in the valley, between the island, on which there is a statue and some kind of a museum/house/sth a river flows right underneath it all. The view from our balcony is truly magnificent. In the night the houses above us coloured in variations of dark orange.
Only the main road has asphalt. And this one leads up to the fort of the tsar; all the rest of them are narrow, with kinderkoepjes [my gosh, where did i think of the dutch word :)..], that is cobblestones and i had the feeling of stepping back in time. This city really made a deep impact on me, as it is not something you can see in the modernised Europe nowadays.
Later on, after the dinner and all the postcard writing, i realized that in BG the weather got colder. Apparently the fall has caught up with this piece of Europe as well.
