Casablanca, Morocco's largest city, is also its economic and business/ industrial/ commercial center. The growth of this city is recent, starting at the beginning of the 20th century, and increasing rapidly after World War II. Casablanca's port is the busiest in all Africa, and is an important port of call between Europe, Africa and South America.

We drive around the city for a little while- looking at the large modern buildings/ streets/ traffic-typical of any westernized city in the world.  I'm not too sure what I was expecting in Casablanca. Certainly not the westernized metropolis that we visit. Maybe my vision is coloured by old Hollywood, Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. I want to see Rick's Cafe American and see the old Hollywood style Morocco portrayed in the film... I guess I would have to go to Hollywood, California for that.

The route we are taking follows the coastline- views of the Atlantic are beautiful as we drive along. An interesting sight along the shore is the Hassan II Mosque, built by Hassan II, in memory of his father King Mohammed V. Two thirds of this Mosque is constructed over the water, and it is the tallest religious building in the world (the minaret is 210 meters tall).
