Settled into the hostel (it's a brand new YHA with lovely new mattresses and clean white sheets - oh joy!)After finding a Thai restaurant I had an early night (I had got up at 5am to catch the Greyhound - it was abut 9hrs too!)
Sunday was a mad sightseeeing mission. I got up early and got the bus up to the New Parliament House. It's this crazy, incredibly modern building (and I personally think horrifically ugly both inside out!) kind of built into Capital Hill with grass over the roof. The view from the front though is amazing. It looks right down to the lake accross and up Anzac Parade to the massive War Memorial on the other side. I did a tour around the builing with a group of about 30 old Aussie people. We had to rush the end part of the tour slightly as they took so long to walk around but were very sweet though!
Anyway, I then went to the War Memorial. It's a really amazing building, although the tour guide was a serious geek with the most horrific voice so I decided to wander myself. Unfortunately I probably didn't do it justice as I don't have much interest in war memorabilia and recreated aircrafts etc. The main memorial shrine is beautiful though. It's a big room completely covered in mosaic with stained glass windows and gold leaf on the ceiling (unfortunately my photos aren't great).
This was pretty much it for my trip here. Being a Sunday I was having to travel around with buses that only went every hour. I'm please I've seen the ┴ustralia's capital, but would never return. It's the most spooky place. There are no people on the streets, and it's really just a small town but with important buildings in it!! I really wanted to say something nice about the place, but am struggling, and I was so excited to jump on the bus at 4pm, safe in the knowledge I was only 4 hours from Sydney :-)
