Today was a travel day.

We hopped on the train and took the one-hour ride to Santa Margharita Lingure, north of Levanto and south of Genoa.

It's a beautiful city with a harbor full of sail and power boats. After a look around, we decided to walk to Portofino -- a lovely 3 mile coastal walk with enchanting scenery.

The skies were overcast but the temperature was mild. Even so, the resorts were shut up for the winter and the traffic, which must have been bumper to bumper in the summer, was quite light.

We had the nicest time in Portofino. After a quick look around, we bought onion foccacia and a sweet pastry at Panificio Canale. The sweetest old man, 90 years young, came out from the back to talk to us and told us that he has reached the age of 90 because he eats this foccacia everyday!

We took our treats down to the harbor, opened the wine I brought (with your Swiss army knife, Ken. Thanks!) and had the best meal together -- lots of smiles and laughter.

We walked back to Santa Margharita and caught the train back. Discovered that it was sprinking when we got off the train so we ducked into Miky for dinner. The food was good but the service wasn't that friendly and it was pretty expensive. But it was, after all, our last dinner in Cinque Terra so what the heck.

Now it's late and we're packed and ready to check out tomorrow. Hope it won't be too much of a mad dash to Pisa and Florence.
