I met up with Bill (aka 'bigredtruck' - a fellow travelpodder) and his wife Jacqui on their whirlwind 2 week trip of the British and Irish isles.
The two of them managed to squeeze more content into their 2 week trip, than the number of tomatoes Mr Heinz would be able to squeeze into a decent bottle of ketchup. They crammed in England; the Channel Isles; Wales; Scotland; Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland! Phew!
Their last port of call was Dublin on Saturday, and they met up with little old me, and we went to Howth, north of Dublin for the day. I'd read (and been told) that it's supposed to be nice up there, which it was - very pretty. The only problem was, the guidebook didn't have a map, and we couldn't see the tourist place, despite a sign pointing in its alleged direction, so we decided to look at this streetsign map I spotted on a grass verge - the bloody thing was a fishing map! It gave no info on anywhere in Howth, but if you ever want to go fishing and/or want to know where you'd likely catch Mullet or the like, Howth is the place - in fact, I've taken a photo of the map, so you can do your research in advance.
A cool little market caught our attention, and we got snacks. As I was suffering a hangover from an unpredicted Friday night out, I had a healthy carrot; beetroot; ginger; celery smoothie thing - I think Jacqui & Bill may have thought I was crazy by this point ;-)
We found the castle thanks to Bill & Jacqui's SatNav, aka 'Jane'. Didn't rate the castle though - it's better than Dublin castle (not difficult), but it has been made into a residential castle, so although it'd be cool to live in, it's not that exciting to visit...
We then went up to the viewing point in Howth, bypassing many an expensive house on the hill on the way. The viewing point was pretty impressive, overlooking the Irish sea, on a cliff edge. Luckily I'd brought my Haviana flip-flops too, as I had to remove my 5 inch wedge numbers for the climb down to the cliff edge.
Afterwards we headed back into Dublin, and we were going to take the Viking tour, but just missed the last one (sorry guys!), so had a wander through Temple Bar, and then for something to eat.

Haha!
Love the Heinz ketchup reference, but I was hoping for photos of you, Mr. Bill and Ms. Jacqui!

We're rubbish!
How rubbish were we?! We didn't take any! You will therefore have to cross-reference the cliff-edge pics, ha ha! (once they have theirs on)

Sorry sorry, I went through my pics and didn't find a one with all 3 of us. Guess we'll have to come back over to Ireland to get the picture taken... Or Kathryn can come over to the US of A!
