Next we went to 'Bective Abbey', which isn't very well signposted, but we found it!

It is unmanned, so you have to know that there is a gate to gain entry - but it's a gate within a gate...so you basically climb through the big gate!  How brilliant!

This abbey was also a location used in the filming of 'Braveheart' - I actually recognised this place more - but it could have been also because we'd just seen the photos while at Trim Castle.

We were the only people there, and it was BRILLIANT!!  You could go anywhere inside it that you wanted to - so I climbed a LOT of stairs that would normally be blocked off in a castle for 'health & safety' reasons!  It was a bit eerie being there on our own.  There was also a couple of blocked off areas, and I swear to God, I heard 'something' move in one of them as I peered in trying to make my eyes focus in the darkness!

Bective Abbey = Great place!
