About 2 miles from Inverness are the Culloden Battlefields. As I hadn't been there yet, I paid a visit. It's quite eerily quiet - I can't quite describe it. There is a new visitors centre there, which is brilliant. You are inundated with history and information on the Battle of Culloden, and there is a video room where the screens are on all 4 walls, so it is like you are in the middle of the battle - really well done. They do walking tours throughout the day, but as I was in a bit of a hurry, I went myself. What I didn't realise is that if you walk round the battlefield yourself, they issue you with headphones, explaining all the different significant areas. I didn't realise until I was far away from the visitor centre and had passed a couple of people with the aforementioned headphones. I was quite happy just reading all the info round the field anyway, but I'm sure with the headphones it would have been better - oh, and I failed to mention - I went round the wrong way, which was quite embarrassing. I realised after passing a few people and the order in which I was reading, that you're supposed to go round the battlefield in a clockwise direction - ooops! It was very interesting nonetheless.
