The Kremlin is the stronghold of a city. Moscow's Kremlin was first built in the 1150s and has seen many changes. Today, the Kremlin is the seat of government for all of Russia. Tourists are allowed inside the Kremlin walls. This is quite a treat. There are numerous cathedrals and each is amazing in its own right. Past Tsars are buried here as are old patriarchs of Moscow. Some of the tombs date back to the 1100's. Unfortunately, photographs weren't permitted inside any of the cathedrals but certainly the outside could be photographed to the heart's content.
We couldn't see all of the Kremlin of course as many places were off limits. There was no chance that we would wander into an off limits area with security everywhere. As soon as someone went off the allowed path, the guard blew his whistle and shepherded the offender back to the permitted zone.
We were also treated to a wonderful display of marching and weapons handling in the area surrounded by the cathedrals.
