Where am I?
Woke up this morning after a whisky induced sleep. Fully clothed, I'd been too afraid to undress - as if that would have deterred the robbers, killers and rapists I'd been warned of all day.
I am at East London.
Looking around me now, I feel silly for being so scared. All is fine, it is a beautiful day. I am at a lovely b&b, fully equipped, gorgeous antiques, drinking coffee, eating blueberry cheese cake.
Safe and - sound?
Greig (he has been helping me since I found myself unstuck,) picked me up from Cintsa yesterday, he was there to help his daughter move. I met the owner of the removal van, Louis, who offered me a ride to Cape Town on one of his hauls. Tomatoes.
Today or tomorrow, lucky me, I guess. I'm sure it will be more interesting than the bus.

Anyway, turned out Greig has a friend, Jenny, whose b&b it is I am staying at now. Seems South Africa runs on contacts and favours, and everyone knows someone.
Jen's a lot of fun, laid up with back trouble right now, a constant stream of friends passing by to check on her, to natter.

The favourite subject is crime, and they nod at me, wait and see, they are out to get you.
We are living in Kafrica, not Africa. You'll find out soon enough.
Hence the unquiet night. But tonight I shall be brave and wear my night things - what is left of that as I seem to have misplaced part of it.

Good thing is, I have unlimited use of the internet, so I am taking advantage of that now, while I can.
Hope to download some pics, not my strongest point, even under the best of circumstances.

Wish me luck, on all fronts.

PS Just got a call, leaving in 30 minutes - forget about the pics.

When you're in Grahamstown, remind me to show the "As Others See Us" article I wrote on the very experiences you're having and all the well-meaning but sometimes inappropriate advice you're receiving. The bogeyman of crime certainly does stalk, real or imagined, really does stalk one in good ol' SA!
