JULY 11 2012

JOURNEY: Inverell to Lollback Rest area 210kms
Rest area to Ballina, and Brunswick Heads
Brunswick Heads to Brisbane 150 kms

WEATHER: Cool and wet

Our plan was to spend two  days in Gibraltor National Park after leaving Inverell and we arrived at the park at lunch time; the park was deserted which was a big surprise especially as we were still in school holidays. We obeyed our rule that we don't camp alone and left the park, noticing the fees were $10 per person per day and $7 per vehicle per day. Pays to get a Parks Pass!

Back in the van,we located the free road side rest area Camp 251, 40kms west of Grafton and beside the Mann River and happily there were a few vans already installed for the night. We are happy with the flat grassy site and settle in for a quiet cold night.

Next stop Ballina to check out a 4x4 drive Mercedes Benz Motorhome; it was great but the price of $140,000 was not.

A night at Brunswick Heads for old times sake saw us dining at Sticky Fingers for pizza and Yumi's for the best falafel pockets. It was a cold wet day when we wandered over to the beach after a night at the Terraces CP, pretty well deserted at this time of the year

We arrive in Brisbane on a cloudy damp day, having been away from our “home” town for almost 3 years.

As we drive along our street it is strange to view our house and know that is is occupied by new tenants- our previous tenants from Sweden had been excellent occupants since October 3 2009 and were returning to Sweden at the completion of Michael's Australian contract.

From time to time we discuss returning to live in our house but we agreed that another 12 month lease was right so we will wander for at least another year.

Our wonderful neighbours Cheryl and Malcolm were away on a trip to North Queensland and offered their house as our Brisbane base so we parked the van in front and scrambled inside out of the cold drizzly day. We were very grateful for the house as our first week in Brisbane was
wet and cool. Asia the cat was not too impressed with our minding her but she eventually found a new routine and let us pat her momentarily. The gold fish did not miss a beat.

Our 2 week stay was filled with rekindling friendships and catching up with family and neighbours- lovely! We had missed the Brisbane floods and heard sad tales of the historic event.

Malcolm and Cheryl returned on July 27 and we had a couple of days to catch up on their news; we joined them to watch the Olympic Games opening ceremony at 5.30am on Saturday morning.

Sheila has become an avid member of “Words With Friends”, since her introduction to the online game and is playing 6 games around the world, ahead in all except for the game with the talented Lois. Send her an invitation to play!

Once again it was time to move on and away from the cool weather. So Sunday morning we packed the van, said goodbye and drove out of Brisbane not knowing that a big mishap would change our plans for this day!
