THURSDAY NOVEMBER 24
JOURNEY: Buenos Aires to Dallas, Texas- 8443 kms, 11 hours
Time difference = -3 hours
WEATHER: Cold, maybe 8-10 degrees; foggy
Thanksgiving in Dallas, Texas, USA
The Sudanese taxi driver who dropped us at the Hotel Magnolia last night, was friendly and talkative and we were responsive. Wow! great to be in an English speaking location were Kath's thoughts.
The hotel staff were great, understanding our 15 hour flight delay meant that our Dallas visit was cut short, they agreed to a late check-out at no charge!
The evening cocktails and bed time milk and cookies included in our $100 room rate were sadly missed, but our waitress at dinner was insistent that we receive some of these and presented us with brewed coffee, glass of milk and a Texan serve of home made cookies after our meal!!
We had a message from the taxi driver that Sheila had left her reading glasses in the taxi, when we returned to our room. We managed to contact him early the next morning and invited him to take us to the airport so that a long trip into the city for nothing for him could be avoided; he agreed but would he show?!
We had a great night's sleep and a delicious American breakfast and hit the streets to watch the Turkey Trot Race and see what we could see on a cold Thangsgiving Day holiday in Dallas.
Well, virtually the streets were deserted after the race and we got to see John Kennedys place of assasination and some plaques and that was it! We found a Tex Mex place open for lunch.
Our well researched list of things to do for yesterday was abandoned and we reminded ourselves- "nothing's good and nothing's bad- it just is!!!"our mantra for the last 2 days.
Bless his heart our taxi driver was unable to collect us but he sent a friend with the glasses and a trip to the airport on time! We considered ourselves lucky!!
So we left Dallas at 16.45 on a very quiet Thanksgiving Day.
