SATURDAY JULY 24
JOURNEY: Katherine, Katherine Gorge, Katherine
We finally took a "cruise" up the Katherine Gorge on a tour boat; the gorge was very busy, the journey a bit disappointing because the tour guide was more interested/concerned about getting the boat through narrow ravines, parking it and getting us off to get to the next boat for the 2nd gorge. Her knowledge of the area, flora and fauna was limited and the $58 pp. was not good value under the circumstances.
The gorges are quite impressive, especially when you walk the track to get to the next gorge.
The high walls of the sandstone gorges were red and rugged, and contrasted smartly with the sky and greenery, but the busyness of the place was a detraction. There are 13 gorges to explore but generally the tour boats travel up to 4/5 because you can't sail between them but have to change boats and some gorges require quite a tough hike to get to the next.
We enjoyed a good dinner of flat head and chips at the Nitmiluk pool bar before driving back to Katherine.
The pictures speak louder than words as always!
