Mileage @ Meningie 15448; we travelled 235 kms yesterday to get here.
Weather: sunny from 13 to 21 degrees.
Stayed: Lake Albert Caravan Park $25pn no power
The caravan park is on the shores of Lake Albert at the northern edge of the Coorong; unexpectedly, a lovely spot, quiet, close to town and picturesque. Kath had the camera clicking away, especially at sunset when the pelicans flew in and the sky turned red and then gold.
There were visible signs that the lake was shrinking and a jetty stood where there was no water, but with heavy rains up north recently everyone was hoping that the water would reach the Murray mouth and the lakes. Water is a very political and polarising issue in this town!
We had the camp kitchen to ourselves and cooked up some good meals but Kath was keen to sample the Coorong Mullet, the local delicacy so we hiked into town to get a serve from the recommended café. Sheila decided it was too fishy but Kath was hooked!
There were some good walks along the lake and we easily found a good straight road for our morning power walk. We happily did two nights in this little country town; population 900 we were informed and a very friendly lot.
A long drive to Narrung through green pastures to see Lake Alexandrina was a bit disappointing but it did give Kath an opportunity to practice her driving on this deserted straight road. Yes Sheila has driven every one of the 15448 kilometres so far. The deal remains: Sheila drives and Kath cooks and so far so good!!!
We decided our next stop would be Adelaide where we have a long list of things to do before following the sun north. Kath's mum lives just 2km from the city, has a secure parking space for the van and a lovely guestroom for us.
