BORDER RANGES NP, SHEEPSTATION CREEK CAMPGROUND
$5 pppn Mileage:5474kms

Travelled the Lion's Road, picturesque through horse stud country; we wondered why the horses were just hanging around eating grass on the biggest horse day of the year! Simes Road was very rough and narrow but Sheila handles our van so well that we had no fears. We have all our van contents pretty well strapped in so we all arrived in one piece.

Set up a very spacious campsite and joined our fellow campers who had just finished their Melbourne Cup lunch for a review of the big race.

The only facilities provided here are compost toilets, wood tables and seats and fireplaces but who is complaining? It is beautiful, peaceful and with only 8 other campers- quiet.

This is a World Heritage park with ancient Antartic Beech trees apparently some trees are 2000 years old. Red Cedar grows along the creek bed and we took special notice of the Brushbox trees as our floor at home is made from this wood.

The forest was cool and refreshing on hot days and it was great to come across waterfalls with water and a creek that was flowing. The gorgeous Bangalow Palms were tall above the ferns. The Booyong track took us into guess what? an area with tall booyong trees!

What did we do here? Walked the tracks, read and stared at nature. The ranger who came by to do a bit of work at the site, pointed out a "scrub mullet" but we were wise enough to recognise the creature as a "blue tongue lizard" and he told us some more good tourist stories. I guess everyone likes to have a go at us tourists.

We heard the growl of a local koala but failed to catch sight of him.

We have discovered a much faster way to upload photos so will be able to share more with you. Thanks for the prompt Frances!
