Saturday 10th March
Got up about 9 for a nice breakfast with scones mmm. Checked out and headed off to the train station where I hopped on the next train to Dover. After about 25mins we arrived and I made my way to my hostel which was located in the oldest pub in town. In theory it was cute, but inside it was being painted and fixed up so wasn't really in working order and the hostel which was above the pub was clean enough but just a bunch of odd beds chucked in a room with a not so clean shared bathroom where the door didn’t even close… After waiting about 40mins for the owner to come back and let me in, I dropped my bags off and headed straight out again. I went towards the ocean where I walked along the docks for a while and then up the path to the top of the white cliffs. The cliffs were amazing – they were actually completely white, and stood so tall over the dock and the ocean. You could walk all along the top of the cliffs and go right to the edge and peer over – if you were crazy- as there were no sort of barrier at all which was a nice change. Slightly scary also because the drop down was such a long way and into a rocky sea. The day was a gorgeous day to be exploring the cliffs as it was sunny and almost warm. As I was wandering back along the cliffs I bumped into the Americans who were in my room in Cantebury so I hung out with them for a while and we all just lay on the grass in the sun. After a while it started to get cold so we headed off and walked down a steep path that took us all the way to the bottom of the cliffs to a little beach made of big shiny black rocks. It was very cool and there were afew little caves to explore and to get to the beach we had to climb down a ladder. Afterwards we headed back up (very difficult!) and back into town. I went back to my hostel at this point and just went on my computer in my room which was pretty cold and then there was a drunken guy who was working in the hostel came up and was shouting pretty strange and obscene stuff to himself. It was this point that the hostel was getting even more dodgy. I decided to head out and just stay out for as long as I could before just coming back to bed. So I went to a coffee shop and had a cup of tea while ready a book I bought from the discount store for 2pound. After dragging out my tea I went for a wander to find dinner. The main pub in town was full of loud drunk rowdy old men so I gave that a skip and instead headed to the all you can eat chinese restaurant full of little children. So I sat here for about 2 hours reading and eating and reading and eating until it was finally late enough to head back. I managed to get in fairly unnoticed and crawl into bed (with the door to my room locked – where at least I was the only one in the room… in the hostel for that matter).

Seems like a pretty dodgy hostel all round really!
