Greetings from the Turquoise coast, and my adventure holiday which i have now dubbed "torture on the turquoise coast"..well maybe its not quite that bad, but fair to say not sure i read the trip notes properly....

Anyway, caught a charter flight from Gatwick early Monday morning, package holiday heaven...i had never thought to wear 4inch heels and a face full of makeup at 6am to catch a four hour flight, and had no idea that it was clearly the correct travelling attire as many had opted for this look...silly me, I will know better next time!  Looking forward to see my fellow passengers in a weeks time, all pink and happy after a week abroad with full board!

Flew into Dalaman in South West Turkey, met other Exodus travellers, watched my package friends struggle to head off to their cruise ship and full board hotels in their 4inch heels, and hopped in the bus for a three hour drive to Kas on the Turquoise Coast where we are staying for the next week.  Fellow travellers all seem pretty normal (though guess everyone does at first glance unless you have a second head or something...) 10 of us, so quite a good size group.

So Tuesday, according to the trip notes "easy day"  which i suspect it would have been had it not been 38 in the shade and we were not walking in the middle of the day... Had a quick explore of the town of Kas we are staying in, its really lovely, only tourists seems to be Turks on holiday, lots of cute cafes, restaurants, squares etc then headed off to a beach only accessible by boat or foot about 6km in the distance...an easy introductory walk apparently...

Well kind of easy at the start, then we headed off up hills down cliff faces, narrow tracks, prickles, proper mountain goat stuff, and i am no mountain goat, and if i was i would be the chubby uncoordinated one that fell down the mountain and everyone laughed at...so the easy 6kms took us about 2 1/2 hours due to the terrain, and the oppressive heat, I had no idea I could sweat so much, it was very attractive!

However it was all worth it once we got to this amazing little beach, swam in the med, ate yummy grilled calamari for lunch and had a snooze dreaming of the water taxi home.....except we have a few "walkers" in the group and before i knew it i was pulling myself up a cliff face with a rope (the quicker route back) and the only reference to the water taxi was the chug chug in the distance as it went past... 2 hours home, quicker but crazy steep hills, rocks, loose ground, and by this stage according to the guide "about 40 degrees", I think he was right!  The views were amazing, the water is turquoise, there are islands all over the place, cute little towns with mosque towers poking up, its all very pretty so guess the walk was worth it!

Suspect i may get fit on this week away....although the food is lovely, meze for dinner and a lamb kebab and Turkish wine...who knew??  it was really nice, although i suspect you could have given me metho with a lemon in at that stage and i would have liked it!

Wednesday...another walk, apparently pretty easy again and was ending at a sandy beach and lunch, swimming and food reward works for me so off we went!  i suspect the walk would have been easy if it wasn't 40 degrees and again we were not walking in the hottest part of the day!  Wandered along an old roman aqueduct (never stop being amazed at how clever the Romans were!), up some nice steep hills, and eventually got to roman ruins at Patara, 10km away.  The ruins were pretty good, amazing ampitheatre, but just so bloody hot!!

The beach however made it all worth it, massive sandy beach, sun loungers, cold beers and waves, thought I was on the Med so the waves were a treat, but maybe it was the Aegean..anyone it was great and definitely worth the walk, and excessive sweating!

The food is really amazing, loads of yummy meze and beautiful seafood, and can eat so much when on an active holiday...starting to see why this was a good idea!
