Well my trip is now 4 days away and how has time has flown by! I have been running around doing last minute preparations for the trip and I think I now have everything under control. I have packed and unpacked my bag, loaded up my ipod with all my chosen music, and I think I am good to go. I have decided to again keep my packing to a minimum as I plan on carrying on my bags and not check them. It worked for me last year and I couldn't imagine lugging around heavy bags wherever I go. Especially since I will be solo. I have narrowed it down to 2 pants, 1 pair of capris, 3 t-shirts, 2 long sleeve, 1 thin fleece sweater, rain jacket, 3 pairs socks, 4 pairs underwear, bathing suit (plan on checking out the baths in Budapest!!) and pajamas. Seeing as most of the hostels have washing machines I will do a load in every city. Plus I will have my netbook (most hostels also have free wi-fi!!), my ipod, and my new camera (Panasonic TZ5-love it!!). My main bag weighs a total of 14 pounds, and my detachable day backpack weighs 8 pounds. I will also bring a small MEC carryall bag for city excursions. I still have extra room for lots of souvenirs!
The hard part is deciding what music to download on my ipod. I only have a 8 GB ipod touch. I am very attached to my ipod and have it wherever I go. Music is very important to me and I couldn't bear the thought of not having my ipod on this trip. I decided that I will stick to a Canadian music theme as there are numerous fantastic Canadian bands out there. I subscribe to the CBC radio 3 with Grant Lawrence podcast (he is a genius!) and am loving the tunes from Sweatin to the Indies, Roadtrips, and Best of Collections. And please don't say "where's Nickleback?"....they suck!!! It is Matt Mays, Jason Collett (ahhh Jason Collett!), Hayden, Hawksley Workman, the Weakerthans, Wintersleep, Ladyhawk, Arcade Fire all the way!!
So to make a long story short, I think I am ready. The next few days will be relaxing, spending time with Hartley, and I am sure I will end up checking and rechecking my bags and its contents a few more times!
