Before hitting Singapore for the second time we flew from Kota Kinabalu to Jahor Bahru specifically as Lindsay had promised his old work colleague and friend Gary Shaw that he would send something back from there as it is where he is from. We figured we’d easily be able to pick something up in the airport or bus station or local market as in every single place we’ve been to so far there has been no shortage of little tourist souvenirs and people trying to force things on you that you don’t want. However the airport shopping was being renovated when we arrived, so no luck there. We then spent a good few hours scouring the city but still came up with nothing except Malaysia key rings. Typical, the one time you actually want to find some tourist souvenirs, they are nowhere to be seen.
Johor Bahru itself (or JB as the locals call it) isn’t much of a tourist city, probably as it’s on the doorstep of Singapore and everything you can do in JB can be done bigger and better in Singapore. Having said that, its as nice a many other Asian cities we’ve seen along the way, although there doesn’t seem to be a lot to do there other than shopping. Anyway, we eventually got something sorted for Gary and hopped on a bus to Singapore.

Greetings...
I just randomly came across this blog while googling for 'johor souvenirs' though i'm born and bred in jB i find it diffcult to find souvenir t-shirts as well..
However i beg to differ with this statement
"Johor Bahru itself (or JB as the locals call it) isn’t much of a tourist city, probably as it’s on the doorstep of Singapore and everything you can do in JB can be done bigger and better in Singapore."
ok maybe if yer refering to shopping and nightlife yes, spore is better but there's so many other things to be done in jb/Johor. beaches/islands/national parks/waterfalls... we kick spore's behind! :)
