Where I stayed
Arrived back to Heathrow last night, was such a lovely feeling coming through the arrival doors - Jane ran up to me and we hugged in front of like 100s of people watching lol.
Ended up unpacking half my bag onto the floor at Calcutta airport which wasn't too great - on the search for 'batteries' which the security people reckoned needed to be taken out my 'electrical equipment' :-s I really didn't understand what they meant but fortunately they didn't scan my stuff again! Had a good couple of flights - Calcutta to Dubai then Dubai to London. Got talking to an old Australian lady who seemed to have been everywhere, I would love to be that fortunate by the time I am old :-) I sat next to an Architect who might be moving to Clapham at the end of the year like me
So, I thought I would finish with a few final words about what I have got from this experience...
The main thing I have learnt has definitely been the importance of patience, pro-activity and persistence! I found India to be chaotic, disorganised and communication (or lack of!) was a major challenge but over time I learnt that by following these 3 Ps I could get through it :-) Going out to India on my own for 18 weeks has definitely forced me to become a tough cookie.
I loved teaching and it has inspired me to never rule this as something I may do again :-)
I want to thank all at Blue Diamond for having me and to Lattitude for being a fantastic organisation who gave us great information and support throughout.
To the other 15 volunteer teachers, you were my sanctuary at the weekends - we had lots of fun and it was great to share this experience with such a great bunch of people
I'm going to be going over my blog over the next week to add photos & videos so watch this space.
Thanks for listening guys :-) looking forward to being able to talk to you soon!
Lots of love Kate xxx
