Welcome to Jamaica man...hehehe, Hi everyone - how are things - this is Ocho Rios, Jamaica, home of the now world famous Bobsled team and of course the Dunns River Falls.

What can I say about this island paradise that has not been said before.
You're on island time the moment you set foot in Jamaica.  Ocho Rios, an island paradise in the Caribbean. And once you've had your stresses melted away in the island sun, you can head out for a night of dancing and reggae music.
What's more, the area that surrounds Ocho Rios has plenty of attractions. The number of day trips in the area is almost endless, but there is one you should not miss: the visit to Dunn's River Falls, it was fantabulous and everyone enjoyed it immensely.
Other attractions are the working plantations, pristine beaches, the Bob Marley mausoleum, scuba diving sites and Jaimaican style bobsledding.  Oh what fun. We ended up going to Dunn's River Falls and walked up the falls, it was treacherous in some spots but it was good, we did get soaked a few times but so worth it.  You dry off fairly quickly as this island country is very hot.  Sunscreen was always in order for us as we kept reapplying it.
What can I say - we tried Jamaican Bob Sledding, it was pretty amazing and it was in the mountain.  You descent at nearly 80 mph, not kph, but miles per hour, so that is fast - I ended up taking snapshots all the way with my camera with one hand while I held on with the other.  It is pretty much like a roller coaster but you are by yourself. Was it worth it??? Hell yeah...we did it twice.  It was almost as good as the one in Calgary that I tried in 2009 when I went to visit my best friend there.  What a russssssh!!!!  :-)

The people are amazingly friendly, they love everyone.  The food is exquisite and the atmosphere here is just to die for, it is always party time it seems.  The one thing that we noticed whilst in Ocho Rios is that the pace is literally a lot slower and everything was "No Problem Man", doesn't matter if you were a man, woman or child, that saying was said by nearly all the locals.  The locals, what can I say but wonderful things about them. Never have I been somewhere where the local residents treated us better than they did here.  All I can say is that this part of our trip was one of the most enjoyable.

I ended up buying items in the duty free shop prior to returning to the ship the next day, and if you would have guessed that I purchased 180 proof rum, well yep, that is correct...
**Oh My God !!! **  that stuff is pure alcohol and it could have ignited darn near anything if you wanted it to.  I shared it amongst the girls upon returning to Canada and oh my, it was potent - shooters of this stuff would irritate your throat and after a few you were nearly instantly drunk. It was that powerful. But somehow we managed to finish off a large bottle...wow, we were brave.  :)

All in all, Jamaica is a wonderful place to travel to, this is my second time in Jamaica and first in Ocho Rios and it will most certainly not be my last....And as the locals say - "Well, welcome to my island man"  hehe  :-)  It was most certainly an Island Paradise....

Hope you enjoy this entry as much as we enjoyed it...

Onto Grand Turk in the next segment...but for now - Ya man!

Ciao for now,
Kathy
