1st stop.....Coral View! Really good day to start the tour, bright bright sunshine and baking hot so took a spot on the top deck to soak in the sunshine and the views! It took a while to make it to the island....5hours! But the scenery was amazing, they make you get out of the large "Yasawa Flyer" mid-sea and change to one of the smaller islands boats and they dont have jettys or peirs so its a bit of wading through the water with bags in tow,ha! We got a very warm welcome of more singing and hugs before we sat down for lunch! all food was included on the tour as the islands are so small there is really no where else to eat but your resort. We had opted for a twin room package to get out of the dorms for a while so got shown to our "Bure" really sweet! Beach was a bit rocky but had some sunbeds and savage hammocks looking out to sea! Just what we needed! Stayed here for two nights, had crazy dog that roamed the complex and kept stealing flip flops etc, haha! One night we had a traditional fijian evening, learnt the bula dance and had the most rank dinner ever, they cooked it all under ground, random! maybe we will come back thinner,ha! The weather was amazing on this island so took full advantage!
2nd stop....Manta Ray! Decided to have four nights on this island as we had heard a rumour that the food was good...very important!!! Everybody on the island seemed friendly - one of the locals took a shine to kat and wanted to take her fishing daily,ha! he had a tatoo on his chest "there is no beast more harmful than a woman" kat thought she's steer clear! this island did have one downfall.....eco friendly toilets, basically means one big long drop! and the showers were outside with all the roaches, gheckos and centipedes! we even had to sign a disclaimer to say we woudlnt sue if were bitten by a deadly snake! we were right the food was outstanding - even got to pick off a menu, very rare! we had our 1st night in a beach front bure - we were a little traumatised when the doors flung open at 2.30am, ahhhh! who knows what happened - next night we had to downgrade to a 40bed dorm...biggest yet so little nervous! was fun vibe at night with coconut smashing and limbo and met up with some of our mates from new zealand which was cool. weather was a little greyer here we have found out you can def tan through the clouds. tried a bit of snorkelling but we have proved to ourselves that we are not marine lovers hel got scared by a very long pike fish! ewww! one night we even managed to see the milky way, think you can only see it from this side of the world, it was like staring into a planetarium, amazing!!!! had yet again another fijian night which we dont mind but we are not that keen on the local extreme smoked food! got our 1st taste of kava which is their celebratory drink (non alcoholic) it was VILE like rotten dish water and makes your tongue go numb!
3rd stop.....Kuata (aka Dump Village) Arrived here for two nights and for checked into a tin shed, not happy at all! the door lock was a spinning nail, the curtains were rags, electricty was only on for about 2hours a day, when u were generally at the beach, had no light in the bathroom....if you could even call it that, it had a blue sheet as the roof and a hose pipe for the showers and ants on the toilet roll - nice some would def agree 5*!! after a few complaints and getting a proper lock fitted (couldnt cope after the manta ray experience!) they agreed to move us the next day! we have decided after a week in fiji we were getting a little tired of the cultural side of life! had an amazing day of weather so baked out hearts out on the ant ridden but very white beach! we constantly gettin plagued by mosquitos so all have plenty of scars to show! you'll never guess what the food choice was....only another fijian night! woooo yey, smoked food again only this time they made you eat outside in the dark with no cutlery! best meal by far, haha, no wayyyy! and we are oficially over their number one food - spinach, they have every variety imaginable! even had to sample some more kava as we thought they would curse with their crazy dancing if we didnt! out last day on kuata we even managed to get up for sunrise, really pretty and we have some professional looking pics, think we'v had enough practise as now have around 3000 pics and still going strong, haha!
4th and final stop.....Bounty island - we desperately wanted to eat a Bounty choc bar on bounty island but no where to be found. This was the smallest we had been to and you could walk around it in about 20mins! It was where Celebrity Love Island was filmed! Really pretty white beach and had a lovely cocktail at night around the pool area, food was really good and relaxed vibe even went to dinner with no shoes on, which we soon regretted as got chased by huge crabs, ahhh! so many animals! had a chilled day by the pool and the weather was hot hot hot for our last day! caught the big boat back to the port ready for possibly the best place ever......LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!! WOOOOOOO! x
