What I did
Wild Bird Sanctuary
After a busy morning on Islamorada, we returned to our hotel for lunch and a nap. Ahhh...
This evening, we drove to the Wild Bird Sanctuary on Key Largo. There were some really beautiful birds and a lot of interesting information. Our favorite part was viewing the owls. They were enormous and so beautiful that they seemed stuffed. They weren't though! We took a walk through the mangrove as it was low tide and then a short walk on the beach. Much of the park was labeled with information about people who had passed away but loved visiting this place.
Then, we went to a cheesy souvenir shop. Daddy got some sandals and I picked out two postcards for my grandparents. There were a lot of souvenirs from Key West, specifically of the buoy in Key West marking the southernmost point in the continental US. Mom was getting frustrated looking at all of these knowing that we wouldn't be able to go on this trip. Andre and I couldn't handle that much time in the car. Next time, Mom!
We returned to the hotel just in time for sunset. It was so beautiful! I have never seen the sunset over water before. We checked out the grounds some more and ordered conch fritters at the restaurant next to our hotel. We didn't like them though and Mom felt bad for the conch. Poor conch...
