The entrance to Key Largo was beautiful, just as we had imagined! We stopped at the visitor's center and got some information about area attractions. We decided to start by visiting the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. We visited the indoor exhibits which featured some really neat tropical fish and coral. Then, Mom lathered us up in a half bottle of sun screen and dressed us from head to toe (???) and we went to the beach.
Andre enjoyed playing in the sand. He liked the texture of the sand and rocks and of course tried to put it in his mouth. I had fun searching for shells (coquillages de Key Largo) with Mom and Dad. We wanted to go on the Glass bottom boat tour but it was 2.5 hours and it would have been too long for Andre. Bummer.
Next, we checked into our hotel, the Sunset Cove Beach Resort. Our cottage opened out to the beach where we would be able to watch the sunset from the docks in the evening. We cooked lunch and took a long afternoon nap.
We went back to the park and did some "hiking" on a couple of trails and played on another beach. We chose the Mangrove Trail in particular because it brought back some scary memories for Mom of her trip to Martinique. This one was much more enjoyable.
We went to a souvenir shop and bought some cheesy souvenir stuff and then went back to the hotel to watch the sunset. We missed it! So, we had dinner and then relaxed in the hammocks before turning in for the night.
