The next stop was Preah Rup, built 961. Then to East Mebon, built by the same king as Preah Rup, in the second half of the 10th century. It is a Hindu temple (the early buildings are generally Hindu as compared to Buddhist). Then to Ta Som (a small late 12th century Buddhist temple), Neak Pean (late 12th century- a temple in a lake) and Preah Khan (a Buddhist temple built in 1191-140 acres, one of the larger complexes, but not as big as Angkor Wat- 500 acres). Then we went to watch the sunset at Phnom Bakeng (late 9th to early 10th), with every other tourist in the place. It was built after the king decided to move his capital north-west from Rolous (which we will see tomorrow) but before Angkor Wat. Bakheng was built as the king's state temple.
