After a long flight from DC to LA to Taoyuan, Taiwan, I arrived Sunday night safe and sound but a bit weary. Given the late hour, I stayed near the airport at a simple Holiday Inn Express. It was nothing fancy but nicer than most Holiday Inn's in the U.S. Clean and comfy with friendly staff, I couldn't ask for a better place to crash on the first night

I was anxious to see Chad, as he came to Taiwan for his conference nearly a week earlier. But, since its more than a two-hour train rain from airport to Hualein (where the conference is held), it made the most sense to get a good night's rest and then head south in the morning
