What I did
Saw Michalangelo's Davie, toured Florance, bought stuff and went to San Gimignano in Tuscany

We went to the Accademia and saw Michelangelo's David along with some other of his sculptures.  David is 15 feet tall and a spectacular marble sculpture.  He modeled this from David and Goliath when he was 39 years old and it took him 18 month.  There is amazing detail in the sculpture!  Some of the other sculptures were not completed yet and it showed how he starts creating his masterpieces.  Michelangelo lived to be 89 years old, which was very old for his time.

We also saw the Florence Duomo and baptistery.  Very beautiful and detailed church.  We also toured the Basilica di Santa Croce.  This is where the tombs of  Michelangelo and Galileo are, along with many other tombs.  It is the church of the San Franciscans.  The basilica has beautiful stained glass windows and the alter in gold.  Very spectacular. Piazza della San Lorenzo had a wonderful fountain of Neptune, a copy of David, and a lot of other statues.

The streets of Florence are as hectic as Rome.  Crazy moped drivers!  The streets are very narrow cobblestone.  Need to look out for cars!  There are a lot of Piazza's (squares) in Florence and they all have a lot going on.  A lot of peddlers selling scarfs and other junk that won't take no for an answer!  Florence also had a wall around it to protect it from invaders.  Some of the wall and gates are still standing after 1000's of years!!  They are huge!

We also went to San Gimignano, which is from the Middle Ages and has 13 towers making it look like a midevil city.  It had great shopping and beautiful scenery.  Defiantly a must do in Tuscany.  We had some geloti which was the world champ in geolotti in 2006 and 2008.  It was very good!

The weather has been great, typically in the low 80s.  Sometimes a little hot while we are walking around.  Everyone is doing well and getting around ok.  We have had a couple days with a lot of walking and it is going good!

Tomorrow after a six hour bus ride we will be in Milan and then go to Switzerland.  Tomorrow night we will be at Lake Maggorie.
