I woke up this Sunday to Joe asking me if I wanted to take a drive to go see the bone church in Kutna Hora. So, we hopped in the car and off we went. It was about an hour and fifteen minute drive to Kutna Hora. When we got to the town, we weren't sure where the church was, but after driving around for a while, we found it.
After arriving at the bone church, I waw that it was, exactly that, a church filled with human bones. Everything in there was made of bones: the chandelier, the coat of arms, stuff on the wall, there were bones everywhere. There was also just stacks of bones piled up in pyramids. I have to say, it was a little creepy.
So, why were all these bones there? Well, some time ago, a guy came back from the Holy Land with some dirt and sprinkled it on the church. The church became very famous and everyone wanted to be buried there. There was a plague in which 30,000 people died and their bodies were left at the church. A while later, someone decided to take the bones and make things out of them and there you have it. There are over 40,000 bodies used in the bone church.
