. We skyped and emailed for a couple of weeks. It turns out she lives half her time in Minneapolis and CR. going back and forth... Small world... lives 10 blocks from Hallie. Has good friends that were friends with my Dad and after I arrived here she told me of friends of hers that had emailed her saying they were following my blog and was going from Italy to Costa Rica.. Paul and Jodi Madson... Hi guys... even smaller world.
I am house sitting and taking care of Lily's two cute tabby kitties Pickles and Rah. As much as I love Florence and city life I am equally amazed and liking the nature, quiet, and beauty of Costa Rica. The flora and fauna is jaw-droppingly beautiful and lush. The two places are so dramatically different.
Not to follow in the path of Eat, Pray, Love. ( I actually thought of this before Elizabeth Gilbert's book came out) but I certainly did my share of eating in Italy!!!! Everyone knows my passion for Italian food. Leftover pizza, spaghetti for breakfast...yumm. yumm and now for the Pray part... meditating, praying, yoga, water exercise, eating fruits and vegetables, gardening, reading, and the greatest part is PAINTING, PAINTING, PAINTING. I bought 13 canvases and a couple of yards of canvas/fabric, acrylic paints, brushes in San Jose. The watercolors, oil pastels, paper (I bought in Florence). I should be good for a while. Can't wait to start. Lily's home is beautiful..she likes color too
. The house is bright pink and the rooms are purple, blue, yellow against the hundreds of shades of green outside. I can look out any window and see beautiful plants and view overlooking the valley. Down the hill 7 miles is a little surfing town Dominical, that has some restaurants, shops, dive shops and grocery store. I ventured out on Thursday, taking the bus ...bumpidity bump... down the hill, winding around and around. I actually took Bonine for motion sickness before I left... good thing I did.!!! I went down to the beach and walked a little, had lunch and then did my grocery shopping... waited for the bus and back up the hill... the adventure took 5 hours. Life here is slower, more casual, peaceful. I will really get to know myself....It's me, the kitties, the birds, butterflies, spiders and lizards, geckos.
The plan, as it is now, is to return to Florence the end of July, stay at a friend's house there and her seaside place until I take my trip with my friend Julie to Switzerland in September, one of the trips I won on the Price is Right. I will return to Minneapolis with Julie and see what happens after that. I wake up in the morning and pinch myself and count my blessings. Enjoy the new colors of Costa Rica. Love and living large, Kari
Hola, as they say in Costa Rica, I've changed Ciao to Hola for 4 months. My travel adventure has taken me to the beautiful Central American country of Costa Rica. I flew from Florence, Italy to San Jose, CR a week ago today, with a brief stop over in Newark, NJ. long enough to have a cheeseburger and unlimited ice water without paying for it. I flew from NJ. to CR. I spent a night in San Jose to find art supplies to take with me to my new location, which is a small town of Plantillo (really just a shop) 7 miles from Dominical (pop.200) and 13 miles from San Isidro (pop.60,000) on the South Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. I needed to refresh my 90 day passport visa for travel outside of the Schengen Area and Costa Rica was on my list of living large places. I could travel and get my visa refreshed here and have the opportunity to see a country I've never been to and paint. I went on Craigslist to find a place to rent for 3 months., answering an ad for a house/kitty sitter for a woman in Dominical
