Hi everyone! (well I say everyone - I've love to know how many people are still reading this blog - I'm sure you've all found something better to do, and I'm just talking to myself, tee hee :)
Well, since we spoke last, I've been down to the coast to a lovely, sleepy little town called Kampot, spent a couple of nights there, and got back to Phnom Pehn yesterday.
It was supposed to be about a 3 hour bus ride, but of course it took 5 hours - once again VERY bumpy, although by all accounts the roads have been vastly improved recently. Of course, there are other reasons for the delays - at one point we stopped so a wheel could be changed on the bus :)
I enjoyed Kampot - I particularly wanted to go there as Rick Stein went there on his show, and raved about the food, so I had a little gastronomic journey through some of the local specialities:- Coconut Calamari, Trey Amok (a yummy fish curry) and Lok Lac (strips of beef in a Kampot pepper sauce) Kampot is famous for it's pepper, possibly the best in the world.
You'll be pleased to hear that I burnt off these excesses with an 18km cycle ride. It was a lovely ride, along the river, at the foot of the Bokor mountains, which are stunning.
Sadly, I don't have much in the way of photos, as my beloved little camera is on the blink. I've since discovered that it's still taking pictures, but the screen is blank, so I don't know for sure what I'm getting in the picture. Not good considering I'm off to Angor Wat in a couple of days - it would be a terrible shame to only get in half a temple :(
So, I took a little shopping trip today, and bought a cheap camera as a back-up.
In the absence of Kampot photos, I've posted a little tour around the lakeside (the area I'm staying in Phnom Pehn) for your amusement.
Am off to a wildlife rescue centre tomorrow, with the people from the Lazy Gecko (in a leopard print jeep!). Check it out at http://www.betelnuttours.com/ Am going to get to feed an elephant (that's another thing on my 'list') I particularly like the warnings on their booking page; 'elephants will put dirt and snot on you'....
Righty-ho, off for a curry, then the quiz...
Speak to you soon!
Love Karen x
PS. took my very first tuk-tuk ride yesterday. Great fun! (as long as you hold on, so you don't get thrown out :)

are not the only animal that put dirt and snot on you, on my daily visits to chez feeney, harvey and ruby (boxers X2) regularly deposit large quantity of both on my clothing, mmmmm it is such a good job i love them both so dearly, but you should see me coming out of the house, the neighbours look upon me with what i imagine is an equal mix of pity and disgust, lol and rofl, love you karen and i am really happy and cant wait to see you (having a bit of a 'manic' day, v v happy xxxxx
