We drove quite a bit more than planned and ended up in Colby, Kansas surrounded by wheat fields.  It was a long drive and we still aren't out of Kansas! It was also very hot. Even the breeze was hot! At one point it was 106 on the car thermometer. It sure felt like it!  I did a lot of drive by shooting....taking pictures while going 70 mph. I got some decent shots...lots of barns and fields. I loved the prairies and the way the colors seemed to change at every mile. We made a small detour to see a lavender farm...but it was very small and past it's peak. We did find some butterflies and dragonflies on our way to the farm so all was not lost. One of the nice things about being a painter is that I can paint those lavender fields in full bloom if I want to!

Tomorrow we will be in Colorado. We have no plan other than to explore the area around Salida. I have a few places I want to show Jayne and Holly. Stay tuned for updates!

Just stumbled upon your blog. Can't image how wonderful this trip will be. Looking forward to following your journey. Inspired me to think about gathering some of my artist friends and plan our own trip. Good luck.
