The Plan - Hershey Theme Park

What really happened - We are supposed to get up early to catch the shuttle bus and take advantage of the early ride time for hotel guests. When I wake up I am surprised to see that it is throwing down with rain. The boys are fast asleep and so I leave them to their lie in.

Never one to miss an opportunity, Owen uses the rain to make a case for visiting the Cocoaplex cinema (yes the name is real). I don't really have an objection and so we find ourselves watching Percy Jackson with about four other people. Fortunately the weather has improved when we come out and so we go to the theme park.

There are the usual rides and hardly any queues. Best of all, for the first time ever, Ethan is tall enough to go on everything. After about a hour, we have been on about five coasters and I feel well and truly sick - another reminder that I am now in my mid 40s!! Needless to say the kids are disgusted at my lack of stamina. I send them off on a backwards coaster whilst I take photos and recover. I seem to have inherited my mother's ability to attract unwanted old men, as within the space of ten minutes I have been approached by two different individuals. One is an old basketball coach who assures me he has been on all the coasters but is just having a rest and the other is a veteran in a wheelchair who tells me how good the staff are with helping him on to coasters. Thank goodness the kids come back (laughing because they have seen me being cornered).

We do not stay in the park for much longer but go back to the hotel to spend the evening by the pool. It is lovely and warm even though the sun has gone down. It is an ideal way to end the day and I finally get chance to start catching up on my blogs and emails. We have been out of the country for exactly a month and with less than two weeks of the trip left, my thoughts are turning to home. The kids are feeling the same and we all agree that we wish we could stay a lot longer. It really is great turning your back on responsibilities for a while and just focussing on experiencing new things. This trip has made me realise more than ever how grown up Owen is and I won't have him with me for many more years. It makes this time all the more precious and we are determined to continue to make the most of it.

With this in mind, Ethan sets the alarm for tomorrow. He has a plan, which involves us getting up early and catching the shuttle for early ride time. He decides 6 am will be perfect but after much groaning from Owen and I, he relents and sets the alarm for 7.
