The Plan - drive to Hershey and look around

What really happened - The fact none of us really like Hershey chocolate doesn't stop us heading out to this purpose built town in the North of Pennsylvania. In fact, we are here for 5 nights. Originally built by Mr Hershey to accommodate the workers in his factory, Hershey now has theme parks, water parks, a zoo and lots of chocolate themed fun designed to part tourists from their money. Think Saltaire combined with Alton Towers and a little bit of Cadburys World thrown in!

The drive takes us through Lancaster County, centre of the Amish community. We look out for horse driven buggies but do not see any. When we arrive at Hershey, it is still quite early so we head to Chocolate World rather than our hotel. Chocolate World is just like Cadburys World with a ride showing how chocolate is made and free samples. We book on the "Design your own Choc Bar" Tour which involves choosing a type of chocolate, 3 fillings and a label and then watching it go through the production line. It is all quite exciting really and the end results look good enough to eat.

The evening is spent at the hotel which seems to be modelled on some kind of Victorian Mansion. Yet again, there are zero British tourists and we are quite a novelty. I can live with this, although the fact everyone struggles to understand our accent is less good. Someone asked me if English was my second language the other day!! Surely, my Yorkshire isn't that bad!!!

Tomorrow, we will hit the theme park, but for today we have had enough and an early night is called for.
