Well, I am finally back in Kitchener...sitting at home and wishing I were back in Iqaluit.
Here is what I have been up to since my last post.
December 31 I woke up and read for a while and when I got up, both my brothers were gone to work! Chris came home around 2:30 and we had a bite to eat and chatted about what we were gone to do this evening. I told him that I had plans to go to traditional inuit games at Parish Hall with Jim, but I had not heard from him yet to know what time we were going. Chris had bought me a ticket to go to the Elk's Lodge as well. I said that I would meet him there after the games. Chris left early to go to Mike's before they all headed out. Craig came home from work, showered and then took off to Mike's as well. I was home alone, so I cranked the music and got ready to meet Jim at Parish Hall for 8:00.
Jim and I met inside Parish Hall and the first thing I noticed was that we were the only two non-inuit there! We grabbed a spot on the floor and watched the games. Jim knew a few people there who I met as well. After the games finished at 11:00, Jim took me to the Elk's Lodge where I was to meet my brothers. When I walked in the place, I met up with my brothers who were already incredibly drunk. I met some new people and saw some of my brother's friends who I have already met. We danced and had some drinks. I didn't drink too much as I was flying the next day and flying hung over is never a good thing....I know from a past experience.....coming home from Paris. Anyway....it was Lena's birthday on Jan 1 so at midnight, we all sung her happy birthday. Pauline, her cousin, who I met when we went hunting, decided to raise money in the bar to give to Lena for her birthday. Her idea: to pull up her dress and have guys in the bar pay $10 to kiss her ass.....yes, kiss her ass. She said she it would not be on her bare ass, which I guess is better! And so she did it....and made quite a bit of money too! All my money stayed in my pocket. I got home around 3:30 and went to bed around 4:30 after I showered and got rid of the smoke smell. I was up early enough, about 9:00. Jim called at 9:30 and invited me down to his place for breakfast as he said he makes a mean cup of coffee. I was there in a flash! I needed some caffeine!! We made breakfast and enjoyed a cup of coffee while doing so. We sat down to breakfast and chatted. Soon, I had to leave. He drove me home on his skidoo which I fell off of on the way up a steep hill. I rolled right of the back! It is only for one person, so we crammed both of us on, plus I was not holding on to him tight enough. What was I thinking? Here was a perfect opportunity to hold on to this cute guy really tight!! He dropped me off in front of my brothers, we said our good-bye and he was off to go snowmobiling for the day. I came in, quickly packed my belongings and headed out to the airport for the long jouney home....longer than it should have been. My flight was not direct and it went through Kuujjuak (yes, that is how it is spelled) and Montreal. It was a five hour flight. I was lucky to have 3 seats to myself, so I grabbed every pillow I could, about 10 and piled them up at the window and two blanket and slept part of the way, read for the other part. The airline attendant asked if I wanted dinner, and I opted not to eat. I wanted sleep. I came into Ottawa still tired, and met my friend Marc who I was staying with, and we went to his place so I could change and freshen up before we were to meet my friend Marilee and her friend Mike who were in Ottawa visiting. Dinner was nice, company even better and we had a good time. I was looking forward to a bed however when midnight came around and we were just leaving the restaurant. Back at Marc's, we got ready for bed. I barely slept all night. He snored so damn loud. I was in a pissy mood becuase of this, and was tempted to suffocate him with my pillow. Getting up was not so fun. Marc drove me to the airport for 1.5 hours before my flight, yet I still managed to miss my flight. NOT MY FAULT. I will not tell you how this happened as I can feel my blood pressure rise to an ungodly reading. I ended up on an Air Canada flight to Toronto where I had made arrangements for a limo service to pick me up and take me to work. I was at work at 1:00pm and not in the best of spirits. Tired, hungry and well, work! I stayed until only 4:30 and then went to Tory's to see my cats. Oh how I missed them.
That is the end of my journey!! I had the most amazing time there and I am looking forward to going back.
