Wake up to overcast skies and threat of showers but suppose to be worse tomorrow so decide to do the Acadia National Park today. We will divide the day into 2 with a 2 hour driving tour in the morning and a 2 hour bike ride after lunch.
As we start our drive the cloud break and the sun peaks out! The drive through the park has many great stops at Gardens, Beaches, Rocky shoreline, lakes and a Mountain! The beach is a surprise as it is a great sheltered bay with a wide white sandy beach. Would be fantastic on a hot sunny day! Lots of Lookouts on the rocky coast drive! Highlight is the drive up Cadillac Mt which is 1,700 ft and offers a 360 degree view of Maine as far as you can see. By now the sun is out in full force and we have a picnic lunch at the top of the mountain! What a view! Pictures will not do it justice!
Down to Eagle Lake (largest of the many lakes in the park) and take our bikes off for the ride portion of the day. LOTS of bikes but there are so many trails and they are so wide it does not seem too crowded! Start off around Eagle Lake and it is nice ride with a few long hills and take you up a long ways! Then off to another loop called Witches Hole Pond. This ride turns out to be less hilly and much prettier with tons of little lakes/ponds/ stone bridges and just wonderful scenery. Arrive back at car tired but VERY satisfied,, one of the best rides we have ever been on!
This park is a MUST for anyone in this area!
Back to campsite for a refreshing swim and BBQ steak dinner! A perfect day!
