Well we arrived! After all the commotion at heathrow - we didnt know if we were going to make it or not! First no hand-luggage, and then everything in plastic bags - but no books, no water and certainly not my sun hat its very dangerous!! Despite it being like a rammed cattle market when we arrived (3 hours early) everything else was fine. All flights were on time - heathrow to Doha and then on to Nairobi. And thankfully we didnt lose and baggage either which it seems a lot of people did.
Didnt sleep on the plane - dinner at 11/12pm, then woken at 2am for breakfast before landing in Doha (45oC at 7am!!!) which was basically a desert with some arab people leaving the plane but the rest of us transferring on.
Eventually we arrived in Nairobi - we were anxious after all the tales that we had heard and the disapproving looks when mentionning we were flying into there! But we arrived, were whisked through customs to get outr visa in 2 minutes - $50 there you go have a nice day - and out into the bright sunlight and hustle/ bustle that is Nairobi. Our pickup was 30 mins late but they weren't sure if we would arrive because CNN was showing coverage of the London Terrorist Threats.
We stayed the night with a Kenyan family out in Kikuyu which was an hours drive out of town. Stopped off and had a coffee on the way! It was like any other developing city's capital, busy, dusty, full of people and beggars plus too much traffic!! However reaching the guest house was like an oasis in a desert. A green garden, a clean but basic room and a shower...
Enjoyed a meal with the family, discussing the days events and politics (not our forte!) before getting an early night and ready for the 5am wake up call for the bus out of Nairobi to Moshi.
