Since my last blog we have been very busy on the tourist trail.
Woke up to a little rain and cloudy conditions on day one here, however this cleared by lunch time. First got my camera fixed which was a relief to me. Then we went on a canal cruise which we were able to hop on off as we choose. First stop Anne Franks house, where the line stretched endlessly with people waiting to go in. 45minutes in a freezing wind later we were inside. This was something I had always wanted to do since reading The Diary of Anne Frank a very long time ago. I was surprised how spacious it was, well particularly the warehouse part, where the people hid was not huge. How they remained hidden for two years is incredible, considering it was over a working business. Desperate times (and they certainly were), call for desparate measures I guess.
We completed the canal cruise which was just so relaxing and seeing the lovely Dutch architecture was fascinating.
After that we got back on the trams and cruised around, getting off for a look around at the many shopping, bars and eating areas. Anyway Kevin thought if we stayed on the tram long enough we would be back at the start. Wrong idea! Once again we found ourselves back tracking to get back into the city. Ended the day in our hotel bar and met a few Americans who were doing a river cruise, interesting to talk to and we had another late night.
The next morning it was an early start as we walked to central station to catch a train to a town called Hertogenbosch about one hour away. Here we were picked up and spent the day with Ingrid & Noud in their nearby town called Oirschot.  Kevin went to school with Ingrid when she and her family had emigrated to Australia when she was 6 months old. She moved back to Holland with her family when she was 16. They took us first to their house where we had morning tea...lovely strawberry custard tarts in pastry...delicious. Then we walked around the town enjoying the houses many built in the 16th century but all meticulously maintained. We stopped by their local cafe for a drink and met some locals. Kevin had an icecream In their beautiful shop which also had delicious chocolates...it was presented so nicely.
After this we took a drive to a nearby forest and enjoyed a lovely walk by the canal. Cyclists are everywhere here and with the flat terrain it must be a very pleasant past time. Another stop at a different cafe for drinks, meeting more of their friends, who were all interested in the visiting Australians, and then back to their house for tea, a three course meal of soup, prawns wrapped in smoked salmon and then a large platter which Noud had prepared which he said was traditional Dutch food. Lots of different sea food, eels, sardines, raw herring, tiny prawns, and in the middle a potato mash with eggs. It was all delicious and very refreshing.
The whole day Ingrid and Kevin talked about their childhoods, I have never heard some of the stories so it was interesting for me too. Ingrid has an amazing memory - she said that her time in Bute is one of her best memories.
We had a wonderful day and it will remain a great memory for us to cherish.

Loved reading about your adventures. Glad you have discovered Pimms Beth. Bit disappointed that Kevin is drinking Fosters. Your comments bring back memories for us.
Local news (you probably have heard this but I will continue)
Beat the scumbags by 58 points last night without Taylor Walker (rubbed out for 3) Petrenko (ankle) Callahan(leg) Tippet (2nd quarter concussion) McKernan (2nd quarter possible broken jaw). Henderson kicked 6 goals. Sitting third on the list
Weather here is cold and more rain forecast next week. Carlton beat Collingwood. St Kilda beat Essendon. Kangaroos threw away a 6 goal lead to lose to West Coast by 2 points.
Hope your colds are improving.
Will eagerly await your next report

Am enjoying reading all of your entries. Sounds like you are having a great time, hope you get to see the clog factory and windmills soon. It is bringing back memories for me, eating the eels etc. Don't forget to eat some croquets from Fibo! We have been busy back here doing jobs around the house but other than that not much else to report. Keep posting photos! Missing you both! xx
