Well a better day today and we headed back towards Port Isaac again for the second time in as many days. We went first to the farm owned by Robert which has a huge shed which housed the film sets of one of my favourite British tv series Doc Martin. I was very excited to see the many rooms that are familiar to me in the series and how basic it looks when semi packed up and waiting for the crew to return. The next series starts in February next year, I would imagine the farmer gets paid a fair sum to keep this shed available for this purpose only. He spoke a lot about how the days filming happens and what the actors are like in real life. He invited Sam & Maggie back when filming starts in February....how I would love to be here then also. The visit was so interesting to us both and will be a highlight of the trip. Their farm buildings are all old, quaint and looks exactly how I imagine an English farm to be. After leaving here we go to a nearby strawberry farm for coffee and cake and then head into Port Isaac, which is where Doc Martin outside scenes are filmed. Such a beautiful fishing village and we spent a couple of hours exploring the narrow steep lanes and just delighting in the old little houses that are jammed into the hilly terrain. Cornish pasty for lunch and heaps of photos later we then travelled further along the coast to more tiny and wonderfully quaint fishing villages before coming to the larger and more touristy town of Bude.
We got back to the Colwills by 4.30 and I took the chance to go for a walk around the hedged lane ways and enjoy the sounds of the birds and the wildflowers and the beautiful views.
After tea Maggie and I went to her grand daughters chamber choir end of year performance which I enjoyed immensely. A very talented group of about 50 young ladies ranging from 12 to 15 years old and one young man! The sang a variety of music and their blended harmonies were great for such a young group. It was nice to see Donna and Myles (Maggie's daughter and husband) again at the concert. We are just loving being part of their life style.
