Guten Tag we are now in Germany!

Early wake up call at 6am! Finally my voice is sounding more normal and less coughing so hopefully over the worst. Have felt quite well really, just sounded worse than it was and certainly has not stopped me doing anything.
On the bus and gone by 7.15! Holiday, what holiday....
Our tour guide is an Aussie who has been with Insight company for 29 years, a very nice guy and obviously full of knowledge about our itinerary. On the way he gives us an interesting commentary and history lesson. Long time ago that I studied any of it so it's a welcome addition, along with the little cat naps that we find impossible to fight.
We drove for about two hours before the required 45 minute morning tea stop and voila we are in Germany. Then another two hour drive to Boppard, a quaint German village. Country changed quickly from extremely flat to lovely hills beautiful villages in the valleys. At Boppard we had an hour for lunch or just to look around before our cruise on the Rhine river. It was a beautiful sunny day, no sign of any rain for a change! We sat and ate some Hungarian Goulash soup which was delicious and then sat on top deck to enjoy the gorgeous views of the castles, vineyards on the steep hills and the lovely villages along the way. It was super and I can imagine how much fun a week long river cruise would be....another time maybe!
Got back on the bus and headed to Mainz for our overnight stop, again on the Rhine. Went for a nice long walk to the town square which is huge, tour guide said not much to look at here as all the old buildings were bombed in WW2, so most of it is built since then. Lovely evening, our included dinner was a smorgasbord and the standard was excellent, with some traditional German dishes included. Too nice to go to bed as many of the group sat around talking and just enjoying the traffic on the river and the sun going down...no wind and no flies!
But....another early start in the morning.
