Where I stayed
Our Tent in Zion Canyon Campground

Well everyone was right, this is probably my favorite place so far.  Zion is beautiful.  We entered the park on the East side, and drove through all these really cool rock formations that reminded me of "Oh The Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss.  Then you enter a tiny little tunnel that was completed in the 1930s and is a mile in length through a huge mountain to come out on the other side to this amazing canyon.  There are HUGE rock mountains that are so big my wide angle lens needs to be wider.  We got to the park around 4 in the afternoon and the park campgrounds were already filled (its spring break this week...not cool) so we drove through the park to the South entrance and stopped at a campground right outside the park.  We set up our tent and chris built a fire (he has amazing fire skills, Les Stroud would be proud) and we hung out and watched the sun set over the canyon walls, and then saw the moon rise over the canyon opposite us. It was pretty cold, but we survived and it was really nice falling asleep listening to the Virgin river which flowed right beside our tent.  The next morning we woke up and decided that we wanted to do a hiking day.  We started at the north end of the park and walked the easy mile hike to the beginning of the narrows of the park. This is where the river has cut narrow canyons into the rocks and is pretty impressive, so Im told.  It was too cold, and the water was still freezing so we couldnt hike up into the narrows, oh well. Guess we will just have to come back in the summer.  So instead we did the Angels Landing hike, which is a 5 mile 1488 ft ascend up one of the cliffs.  The last 1/2 mile was straight up a narrow ridge, thankfully they added chains to help keep yourself on the rocks.  When we finally got to the top it was well worth it.  The view was FANTASTIC.  We were basically in the middle of the canyon with a 360 view of the entire park.  We sat and relaxed up on the ridge for a while just enjoying the scenery and the sun (weather was beautiful).  We finally decided to start our trek down and back to the car, which was just as hard but for different reasons (my knees still hurt, but at least my lungs werent about to explode)  All in all, a great day in Zion...it was then back to the campground for a much needed shower and a nap.  We spent another night here and then woke up the next morning and headed out to the Grand Canyon.  We've had an amazing past few days, lots of beautiful scenery and all so different, I only hope there is still so much more beautiful scenery to see!!  Have a great weekend....hopefully we can stay more updated now that we are heading to California where there are cell phone towers everywhere :)
Miss yall,
Kara and Chris
