Our adventure is over tomorrow. Soon we fly back to cold, cold New York. As we look back we are reminded of all the fun we had in beautiful Mexico. We went through 4 tubes of sunscreen, swam with dolphins, swam with turtles, fed monkeys, saw flying fish, saw brain coral, saw fan coral, saw angel fish, saw many fish, watched Julia snorkel for the first time, watched the sun rise many many times over the beautiful sea, hugged a sea lion, visited 6 or 7 different beaches, two cenotes, one snorkle tour, Island hopped to three islands, visited 5 or 6 cities, drove two different vechiles, 4 ferry rides, two boat trips, many kayak adventures and heard the waves crash every morning and every night while in Akumal.WOW! There is more but I don't want to bore you. The kids absolutely loved their travel adventure and we would recommend it to everyone!
What we learned: That the Mexican people are very welcoming as long as you stay away from tourist traps then they are an aggressive sell. We learned that sea life is so important that we need to do anything and everything we can to keep it.
Julia and Tommy learned they can live without toys but they can't live without an occassional cartoon. We learned that Spongebob in Espanol is just as funny as English.
If you travel with small children---set a routine and a game plan before the day starts. It helps kids adjust to their new environment.
We hoped our family inspired all of you to take a trip with your family and to steer away from mega resorts. Happy travels to everyone!
If you are looking to stay in Akumal- Try using a Condo service. There is plenty of them! Lol Ka Naab was wonderful and Elio the condo manager helped us get set up with everything from a babysitter to a hammock.
